The Tesla Roadster is an amazing use of technology. The first roadster (2007, as seen in the Top Gear review) had its problems, but the 2010 model has really improved on this with the larger battery.

The Model S has improved on the battery by having interchangeable battery that is much smaller.

What is in store in the future for Tesla? Time will tell, but it does seem like the electric car is the way of the future!

Tesla in real life (2007 Model)

Hola from Barcelona Spain. Had a great vacation and ready to go back soon.

So you have heard a lot about this new electric car, the Tesla Roadster, so how does it preform in real life? Keep in mind that his is the original 2007 Roadster and the 2010 model has been improved a lot, and most people do not drive their cars like they do in this video . The car just gets better each year, and one day it will be as good as a gasoline powered car.

Disclaimer: This is a British Video with British humor so most of my American readers might not get a lot of the humor in the video, but the overall review of the car is great.

All right, so now we have seen the evolution of the world’s first practical electric car, the Tesla Roadster, but it has a large price tag of $101,000(after tax credits) and seats 2 people with a range of 250 miles on a single charge.

Tesla Motors is now developing their next vehicle, the Tesla Model S, which can seat up to (according to their website) seven people and can go up to 300 miles (on the optional extended batter) and costs a lot less then the Tesla Roadster ($49,000 after tax credits). This is still a decent amount of money for a car for most people.

Earlier this summer, Toyota backed Tesla with some money to help fund the study of electric cars. In turn Toyota can use some of Tesla’s electric car technology in their own cars, and thus we will see a new wave of electric cars that are going to be cheaper then Tesla’s own cars. Telsa and Toyota are now beginning work on an electric RAV4, which is a SUV. The slated price is ($40,000 BEFORE all of the rebates) Estimated time of arrival? Next year, unless they decide to can the project.

Tesla, the Next Generation

The Tesla Roadster is an amazing car, fully electric, and can reach speeds of up too 130MPH. The problem with it, the fact that the car can hold only two people and has a price tag of $115,000.

The next generation of Tesla car is scheduled to be released in 2012, The Model S. This Tesla car is a four door sedan.

This car is a sleek looking car that can still reach speeds of up to 120MPH has a longer range (300 Miles vs 230 Miles), seats four people, and on top of all of that, the Model S has a much lower price tag.

Right now Tesla is accepting pre-orders on this car for $49,000 with a $5,000 reserve on the vehicle. While it is not cheap in any sense of the word, it is a step in the right direction of getting the price down.

The Beginning of the Future

The year is 2003. A group of engineers from Silicon Valley decided to form a company that would create cars that would decrease our dependence on foreign oil to zero and they decided to make electric cars.

Electric cars are not a new invention though, the first electric cars were released around the time of first cars.

Back in 1899 an electric car broke the speed barrier at the time (65 mph) and then they began to make their appearance in the early 1900s and they began to be used as city cars. The reason that electric cars did not catch on was the fact that there range was only suitable for city driving and they had slow top speeds. As the distances needed to travel in the United States grew, the need for a car that traveled fast had a large range was needed. This being said, the sale of electric cars peaked in 1912, and fell from there.

There have been some successful electric cars in other parts of the world such as the REVAi, but with a top speed of 50 MPH and a range of 50 miles it is not practical for most American drivers, and having such a low top speed it is not a street legal car in the United States.

Tesla changed all of that with their introduction of the Tesla Roadster in 2008. This small, but powerful 100% electric car can go 245 miles on a single charge and have speeds up to 125 mph.

This is the future of electric cars. A car that is as fast and faster than a gasoline car and has a decent range.
